About Every37.com

The Teachable Moment Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established to help people make the connection between drunk driving and its potential consequences.

There are five components to the Teachable Moment Foundation’s mission:

  1. Every37.com Public Awareness Campaign: The goal is to decrease the rate of drunk driving in Sacramento County with an integrated strategy of radio, television, out-of-home, online and guerilla marketing. The target audience (males 18-34) can be hard to reach and hard to persuade and requires a combination of traditional and non-traditional media. Studies have shown that publicity reduces DUI arrest rates and alcohol-involved fatalities. The campaign is designed to enhance the effectiveness of the other elements of the program.
  2. Increased Enforcement: More law enforcement officers are on duty for increased DUI monitoring and processing, including increased checkpoints throughout the year, made possible through a $900,000 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety to the City of Sacramento Police Department.
  3. Vehicle Impoundment: Offenders with two or more DUIs will have their vehicle impounded for 14-30 days immediately upon their arrest.
  4. Brief Interventions: Motivational interviews with DUI offenders in the jail prior to release, including referrals to DUI treatment programs, made possible through a $650,000 OTS grant.
  5. Evaluation: A university study of the program is in action thanks to the Robert Wood Foundation, University of Michigan, UC Davis, and the California Office of Traffic Safety.
